7 hours ago Unfortunately, your ABD is not a degree and, once you have discontinued work on it, has no status at all. You did complete an M.A. and that is the highest degree you can list or claim. It is possible to put in a line of explanation using the tag "further study" particularly if the ABD was done at a different university or program.

9 hours ago Jun 22, 2008 . The ABD is far, far advanced beyond the Master's Degree. The Master's degree requires about 1 year of work after the bachelor's degree. The ABD in most cases can only be achieved with about 3 years of grueling effort at a fundamentally higher level, getting your teeth kicked in anew every week, the whole way along.

6 hours ago Dec 07, 2015 . NO! Lots of people are PhD (c) and they never finish. In my opinion it's proper to say that you are currently enrolled in a doctoral degree program. If you're ABD then you can say that too. But don't put the post-nominals out there and then say "but not really." PhD (c) = PhD (but not really). Kizmet, May 23, 2011.

ABD is not an actual degree nor is it a credential; it is often used informally by individuals who did not complete their degree after they have stopped being a student. All amended forms of the doctoral degree credential, indicating partial attainment, should be avoided in your signature, as well.
I have seen people use “PhD, ABD” on their credential line for an unspecified time. Seriously, if your degree is about having the credentials, then you may be pursuing it for the wrong reason. Many professional organizations and publications do not allow you to note credentials of degrees in progress.
All But Dissertation (ABD): A Complete Guide What does ABD Mean? The term “ABD” stands for All But Dissertation. This means that you have finished everything in a PhD program except for the dissertation.
You should not use amended forms of a degree (e.g., PhD-C or PhD (c)) to indicate partial completion of your program, nor should you use ABD (all-but-dissertation). None of these designations are accepted credentials, and using them may confuse others, including prospective employers.
