The results of you ABG will show several numbers. Here are two important ones: Partial pressure of oxygen, or PaO2. This measurement shows the pressure of oxygen in your blood. Healthy adults will generally have a resting Pa02 greater than 80 millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Acid-base balance (pH).
pH: This is a measure of the overall concentration of Hydrogen ions...it measures acid/base in the blood. Normal range is 7.35 - 7.45 PaCO2: This is the partial pressure of carbon dioxide dissolved in plasma. It measures ventilation (how well the body can get rid of CO2)...it is the respiratory component of the ABG. Normal is 35-45 mm Hg.
