Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, an episode of Rabbit Ears Productions' We All Have Tales series, televised on PBS in 1991, featuring John Hurt as narrator, with illustrations by Greg Couch and music by Mickey Hart.
The story of Aladdin is a classic ‘rags to riches’ story featuring a young hero, a beautiful princess, an evil villain, and made complete with a magical genie (or two?). It has come to be one of the best known and most retold fairy tales of all time. So, what is the history of this beloved tale?
Yep, that’s right, there are two genies in the original story. The first we all know and love is the Genie of the Lamp. The second is not as well-known and is the slave of a magic ring which Aladdin receives from the evil magician.
Aladdin told his mother everything about the merchant and how he left him alone in that forbidden cave. He also told her about the magic lamp and the genie who helped him get back home from the cave. After narrating the entire story to his mother once again, Aladdin rubbed the lamp, and the genie reappeared before him.
