Elbow Lake is a 15.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near McLeod, Montana that features beautiful wild flowers and is only recommended for very experienced adventurers. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from July until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail.

The best family-friendly hikes from Elbow Lake are Elbow Lake lakeshore (less than 2 km round trip, flat) and the picturesque Edworthy Falls (6.4 km return, 50 m elevation gain). I used to hike to Rae Glacier (5 km return, 500 m elevation gain) and slide in the snow, but the glacier has retreated so far up the mountain, there isn’t really much to see/do there now.

The Elbow Trail, part of the Trans Canada Trail, spans 6 km in length from Tufts Bay along the beautiful shoreline of Lake Diefenbaker to the marina and Harbor Golf Course clubhouse. Developed by Elbow residents, business owners and vacationers, this packed earth trail is operational year-round.
Planned improvements for fall 2015 include two new bridges on the Orange Trail, funded by Frontenac County and the National Trails Coalition. We are hoping to round up Elbow Lake volunteers and build these structures in early October. Interested in helping? Stay tuned!
The Elbow Lake property is a nature reserve – no plant or living creature is to be intentionally disturbed or removed from the property. BLACK-LEGGED TICK ALERT! The biodiversity of the Elbow Lake property includes the black-legged tick. These tiny arthropods - related to spiders and mites - can carry Lyme disease.
