E-ZPass is an electronic toll collection system that is used in the northeastern United States. A total of 14 states use the system to collect tolls automatically, including Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia and West Virginia.
But, if the road you'll take has too many toll lanes, you may consider whether you can use your E-ZPass in it. The truth is that if you're using a rental car and possess an E-ZPass transponder, the best option you have is to use it instead of opting for the rental company's toll pass, which can be very expensive.
E-ZPass is an electronic toll collection system that allows you to prepay your tolls, eliminating the need to stop at the toll plaza. As your vehicle enters the toll lane, the E-ZPass tag that is mounted on your vehicle's windshield is read. As your vehicle passes through, your E-ZPass account is charged the proper amount.
States connected to the E-ZPass system include Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia and West Virginia. Additionally, as of May 28, 2021, all of Florida's toll roads are compatible with E-ZPass.
As your vehicle passes through, your E-ZPass account is charged the proper amount. You can enroll in E-ZPass with as little as $25 to start. Discounts on many of the roadways offering E-ZPass including the New York State Thruway Authority, MTA Bridges and Tunnels, New York State Bridge Authority and Port Authority of NY&NJ crossings
Most agencies permit more than one transponder to be assigned to an account, but only one vehicle may be assigned to a transponder ID at any given time. If you wish to order the E-ZPass issued by New York, the state offers the following types of accounts: A number of E-ZPass discount plans are available in New York.
