It get rids of the message that the device can be safely removed and it can also close processes that are locking files on the device so that it can be removed. One thing I like is that you get a gui and a command line version.

5 hours ago USB 'Safe to remove' message never appears. This has happened only after I applied the 1703 update: I insert a USB drive. I click on the 'Safely Remove' icon in the notification area. I click 'Eject'. No 'Safe to remove' message appears. This behavior never varies, even if I don't read or write to the drive.

Type ‘List Volume’ to get a list of partitions. The first one will usually be the USB drive. The second will likely be a ‘Recovery’. The 3rd, hopefully, will be your system disk.

Thankfully, when it comes to USB hacks, there are some very simple steps you can take to combat them: Educate your users on the dangers of USB devices. Some hackers have been known to drop infected USB sticks in the car parks of large corporations in the hope that a curious employee will plug them into their work PC.
As you can see it is very easy for someone to create a hacking USB to steal all your passwords which it is why you should be very careful when saving sensitive credentials such as bank details on your computer. Even though a lot of malicious programs are smart enough to bypass virus scanners, it is still recommended that you have one installed.
The consensus seems to be developing that, if you click Eject and it disappears from the list, it's safe to remove because most Removable USB devices are defaulted to the "Quick Removal" Policy anyway. I click the icon and choose Eject. I get no message.
The World of USB Device Hacks Due to the presence of autorun software loaded on to USB sticks, all a hacker needs to do is ensure that their infected USB stick is plugged into a PC to activate it’s malicious payload.
Locate the device in the sidebar. It should have a small eject icon next to the name. Click the eject icon to safely remove or eject the device. Alternately, you can right-click the name of the device in the sidebar and select Eject.
Locate the safely remove hardware icon and click on the arrow in the dialogue box to the right of this option. From the drop down list select 'show icon and notification' and then press the OK button. The safely remove hardware icon will now permanently be displayed in the notification area.
