* Completion of all necessary training to become a Home Energy Score Assessor should take no longer than 30 days. Under this training program, IDE allows all students 90 days to complete this training. IDE will provide all necessary support and training during this period to all attendees and registrants for the Home Energy Score Program.
Home Energy Scoring Tool is quick and easy to use. Assessors can gather the information needed to assess a home in one short site visit. This low-cost, high value assessment can be provided as a stand-alone service or as an add-on to a home inspection or comprehensive energy assessment.
DOE-trained Home Energy Score Assessors can provide the Home Energy Score within an energy audit, home inspection package, or as a standalone product. Local and national Partner organizations help Assessors meet training, mentorship, and quality assurance requirements.
The Home Energy Score Simulation Training (“Sim”) is like playing a video game. It teaches prospective Assessors important information about the Home Energy Score. Through the Sim, you conduct virtual home walk throughs in homes designed to show a variety of situations you might encounter.
Candidate Assessors must score their first home with a mentor. This must be completed within six months of passing the Sim and written exam. Some Partner organizations also offer group or remote mentoring sessions. 5. Start scoring homes! You are now ready to provide the Home Energy Score to customers.
