Frequently Asked Questions

  • Should I apply before getting my LSAT score?

Note that even though applying to law school before you have your LSAT score isn't necessarily advantageous, you should still prepare your application materials while your score is pending and submit them as soon as your score is available.

  • What LSAT score would I Need?

The LSAT is scored on a scale of 120-180. The average score is about 150, but if you're looking to get into one of the top 25 law schools, your score should be well over 160 . There are about 101 questions in each test, and each question answered correctly accounts for one point of your raw score.

  • When should you take the LSAT?

The best time to take the LSAT is in February or June of the year prior to when you plan to enter law school. Many law schools accept applications beginning in early December and ending in February or March, and make admissions decisions on a rolling basis.

  • Should law schools require the LSAT?

More law schools may begin accepting other standardized tests like the GRE... but you should probably still take the LSAT. While the LSAT was specifically created for law schools to evaluate the critical thinking skills law students need, other standardized tests may do it too.

  • What does the LSAT have to do with Law School?

The purpose of the LSAT is to aid in predicting student success in law school. Researchers Balin, Fine, and Guinier performed research on the LSAT's ability to predict law school grades at the University of Pennsylvania.
