I speak an older dialect hawaiian and the hawaiian we hear now in hawaii is a more modern version but just going through all these words makes me realize how close our language is to maori. We also are always mistaken for maori or tahitian when we speak our dialect and now i know why.

Te Aka Māori-English, English-Māori Dictionary and Index by John C Moorfield. This dictionary comprises a selection of modern and everyday language that will be extremely useful for learners of the Māori language.
In 2017, Hemi translated Witi Ihimaera’s novella in Sleeps Standing and published his first book A Maori Word a Day in 2018. In 2019, Hemi published his first creative writing piece in English in Purakau, a collection of Maori myths retold by Maori writers. A great tool for anyone wanting to learn the Maori language.

In May I began the CORE Education Te Reo Puāwai Māori course. This course begins and ends with a full day face-to-face hui, and in between there are 10 weeks of online lessons, including weekly webinars. We were encouraged to set and share our goals in the first couple of weeks.
Prefer kupu that are frequently used based on Mary Boyce's work, e.g., pātai rather than ui. Try to use a variety of grammatical forms between examples and within a group: questions, locatives, commands etc. Avoid using a past tense with active sentences (as the past tends to sound better with the passive voice to native speakers).
