Do Plumbers Install Sinks? - Flow Pro Plumbing

  • Step 1: Prepare the Sink Step 1: Prepare the SinkThe first thing you need to do to install a new sink is to measure the old sink to get the right dimensions. When doing this, make sure you pay attention to where the drain is.If you’re not able to get a new sink with the same dimensions or drain location, you might need to change your counter opening or plumbing. When planning for your new sink, you’ll also want to think about whether you need to replace the faucet or any other components, as this is easiest to do when you’re replacing the entire sink.
  • Step 2: Remove the Old Sink Step 2: Remove the Old SinkWhen removing the existing sink, first turn off the hot and cold water supply lines. Once you’ve done this and opened the faucets to relieve any pressure, disconnect all water supply lines. If you have a garbage disposal or dishwasher, you’ll also need to disconnect those. After all, lines are disconnected, loosen the metal clips under the sink, cut the caulk around the sink and slowly push the sink out to remove it.
  • Step 3: Install the New Sink Step 3: Install the New SinkOnce you’re ready to install the new sink, hold it over the space to ensure that it fits properly. If it doesn’t fit, you’ll need to modify the countertop using a jigsaw, router, or tile cutter.Once you’ve ensured the space is ready, you can begin the actual installation process. In the first phase of this process, you’ll want to: attach the clips, use putty to install the drain strainer; secure the rubber gaskets and threaded flange to the underside of the sink drain; and install the mounting of the disposal.Once those components are secured, apply a sealant to the edge of the basin, carefully lower it into the opening, and then tighten the metal clips under the sink. When it’s in place, you’ll need to attach the supply lines to water connections and, if you have a garbage disposal and dishwasher, connect those as well.If your pipes are too long, too short or need a bend in them, this is the time that you’ll make those adjustments. With all components in place, you’ll then apply a sealant to the perimeter and turn the water back on. As you can tell, this process is not an easy one.Plus, it’s important that all aspects of the project are done correctly to avoid damage and to ensure that the sink functions correctly. While we shared these tips because it’s important to understand what’s involved in a sink installation, we highly recommend that you leave this job to a trained professional.
