ECG signs of myocardial infarction: pathological Q-waves

9 hours ago ECG criteria for pathological Q-waves (Q-wave infarction) Individuals with electrical axis 60–90° often display a small q-wave in aVL. Leads V5–V6 often display a small q-wave (called septal q-wave, explained in this article). An isolated QS complex is allowed in lead V1 (due to missing r-wave or misplaced electrode).

Abnormal ECG Findings in a Young Patient ... - Circulation

12 hours ago Sep 04, 2018 . The main abnormality in the ECG depicted in Figure 1 is the presence of prominent Q waves in the inferolateral leads. This patient shows a clear predominance of the septal forces over the lateral ones ( Figure 2C and 2D ). In the human heart, 4 vectors of depolarization have been reported. The first 2 vectors are related to the depolarization ...

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do abnormal Q waves mean on a ECG?

Pathological Q waves usually indicate current or prior myocardial infarction. Cardiomyopathies — Hypertrophic (HCM), infiltrative myocardial disease Lead placement errors — e.g. upper limb leads placed on lower limbs The absence of small septal Q waves in leads V5-6 should be considered abnormal.

  • What are the ECG criteria for Pathological Q-waves ?

ECG criteria for pathological Q-waves (Q-wave infarction) Lead Definition of pathological Q-wave Normal variants V2–V3 ≥0,02 s or QS complex* None All other leads ≥0,03 s and ≥1 mm deep (or QS complex) Individuals with electrical axis 60–90° ...

  • How do you identify AV dissociation on an ECG?

It is always easier to identify AV dissociation rather than AV association; T waves can often be confused with P waves. Always examine the entire ECG for unexpected deflections in the QRS complex, ST segment, and T waves that are dissociated P waves. The P waves are usually most obvious in the inferior leads (II, III, and aVF) or V 1. Figure 7–5.

  • Where is the Retrograde P wave on a QRS scan?

Most commonly (in approximately 50% of cases), the P wave is buried in the QRS complex and is not seen. In approximately 40% of cases, the retrograde P wave is observed in the terminal portion of the QRS complex.
