- 1. APPLY 1. APPLYThe easy part? Tell us you want a voucher! All you have to do to get in the program in 2021 is tell us you want to participate— either by filling out an application, emailing us or even a DM on instagram. From there, we will connect you to the certification body (That means the organization that actually wrote the standards and issues the certifications.) They will collect some information about how you cultivate via an application form or a phone call depending on your preference. Based on your responses, if you are likely to achieve certification you’ll be scheduled for a site visit.
- 2. SITE VISIT 2. SITE VISITAll new certifications for both organizations that we subsidize require a site visit. We know. Another inspection. But this is an important part of what certification means. You are claiming something, and you are willing to prove it. A respectful industry inspector will come to your farm and review your season records. An inspection report and corrective action plan is written if needed. Site visits are scheduled to take place May-October and you’ll be given plenty of notice and information on how to prepare.
- 3. CERTIFICATION 3. CERTIFICATIONOnce your site visit and inspection report has been completed, the certification body reviews and either approves the certification; approves a conditional certification with a corrective action plan; or does not approve certification for labeling but provides a clear step-by-step plan on how to bring your operation up to standard for the next year. These Certifications are good for one year. Once certified, you will be included in a sustainable farms directory and authorized to use the appropriate seal on your packaging and alongside any digital content you put out there.
