The 340 has a 727 and 3.23 gears to back it up. This GTS is somewhat of an oddity for the Hamtramck assembled cars as Rich's GTS has a column shifted 727. Most 727 column shifted GTS Darts rolled off the Los Angeles line instead. LS23H9B221***: GTS#188: Scott from OH has a Hemi Orange 383 GTS. This was an original Y2 Yellow car with the black top and interior ( which it still retains ). The 727 Torqueflite runs thru to 4.10 gears. Scott plans on keeping his GTS for a looooong time! This 440 was built for racing, and here's a picture of it circa 1978 running ! This was purchased at Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge and retains the number matching 440! LS23P9B224***: GTS#333: Guy from Saskatchewan, Canada is now the owner of this 1969 340 GTS. Guy bought this GTS from a "friend of a friend" with a bit of a story behind it. The 340/727 GTS was liscensed in 1986 when it was purchased by a couple of brothers who wanted to rebuild the 68,000 original mile A-body. They removed the vinyl top, . They pulled the engine and trans, and then promptly let the car sit in an open car port for the next 19 years!! Guy has rescued the GTS from this fate. He plans on returning it to its original B5 Bright Blue Metallic with B3 Light Blue interior. This is an original stripe delete car, so Guy is debating if he should keep as such, or he really wants to add a white stripe. Also, the jury is out if Guy puts the original black vinyl top back on too. Guy will be tackling the resto with his son and his brother and hope to fire the 340 by Spring 2007! . LS23H9B225***: GTS#68: This F8 w/black vinyl top, white stripe and black interior GTS was ordered new in 1968 and is still with it's original owner after 33 years. Built on Nov. 29, 1968 and sold new in Canada, it shows only 32363 original miles due to spending a good bit of time on the drag strip. Put back to street trim the GTS still turns , and ran a best of 11.74 @ 114 during it's hey day. The GTS was ordered with the N85 tach, W18 simulated mag wheel covers, H31 rear defogger as well as a host of other options. The power still comes the 383 and 727 automatic running though a 3.55 Sure Grip. Trevor is the proud owner of this GTS. LS23P9B231***: GTS#208: Built on December 4, 1968, Mike's now Maryland based 340 GTS has only 76,000 original miles. This "project car" has some rust issues that Mike will be tackling as the car has spent it's life in the mid-west. . Currently, there is a warranty replacement block with a 1971 casting date between the fenders. Options on Mike's F8 Dark Green GTS include: Black vinyl top, black bumble bee, black bucket seat interior, console, AM radio, fender top signals, A01 light group, M21 and M25 drip and sill mouldings, disc brakes, and tinted windshield. Keep it going, Mike! You're almost there. UPDATE! ! Congrats Mike for saving a bit of Mopar history! LS23M9B232***: GTS#471: Doug E. from Ohio is the 4th owner of this 1969 440 GTS. This "M" was ordered with the deluxe "mag style" wheel covers, AM radio, head rests, remote left side mirror, and a 3.91 geared SureGrip 8 3/4 rear end!!The car had been cut up in the past. As Ralph and Susan had to replace the inner fender wells to fix up where the previous owner had done some cutting for fenderwell headers!! LS23M9B232***: GTS#200: Brian from PA has chased this "M" code for 20 years before finally talking the former owner into selling it. This "M" is a black on black 3.23 geared example of the GTS!! LS23P9B233***: GTS#59: This Canadian GTS was sold new at West End Chrysler in Toronto, Ontario on December 16, 1968. John G. from Ontario had his eye on this 340 GTS since he was 18 years old, and bought the car from the original owner in 1973. Used as a daily driver until 1978, this pristine GTS received a full resto in 2001. It is B5 bright blue metallic with white interior and a white vinyl top. It is a stripe delete GTS, but John has added a white bumble bee. The number matching 340 drives the rear wheels thru a 727 Torqueflite to the 3.23 SG rear! John happily drives his GTS everywhere including ! There John and his GTS turned a 13.91!!! Keep the old iron rolling, John!! LS23H9B234***: GTS#303: Alan L. is another long time GTS owner. This GTS is a bit of an oddity--possibly a One-of-One for the GTS Registry!! This is a stripe delete, bench seat (optional) and column shift 727 auto! Usually we see the column shift 727 along with bucket seats and built at the Los Angeles plant-not from Hamtramck, MI. But Guido's GTS's orignal owner also opted for the column shift AND optional bench seat as well! Along with locating a 1969 casting 340, Guido and brother did all of the bodywork, mechanical, and electrical restoration. . The addition of shiny Crager rims looks great too! LS23M9B236***: GTS#639: Rick in Vancouver, BC has a fully restored 1969 440 M code GTS. One of 34 built with the 383 and 4 speed combo. Bob bought the car from a friend whose mother was the original owner. Built on Saturday, November 30, 1968, this GTS was originally bought in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bob bought the car in 1978 for $350 (!) with 96,000 miles on the clock. He restored the car from 1989 to 1991 having to replace the floor pan amongst other tasks to bring this 383 GTS back to its glory. The GTS came with a 999 paint code, but was wearing T5 Bronze when Bob bought it. . The GTS was also a radio and stripe delete car as well. Very strange options along with the 999 paint code for "mom" to be driving. Bob has drag raced his GTS and piloted it to a best of 13.35 @ 103.9 mph. George is rounding up parts for the restoration as the previous owner wrecked the GTS (in the late 1980's), and then started to sell off the GTS "specific" parts on the web such as the 383 manifolds, trunk finish panel, and such. LS27P9B241***: GTS#322: Paul from Ohio owns this 1 of 58 convertible 340 4 speed GTS. He picked it up in 1981 and has had it securely put away for the last 10 years. A pretty barebones car with only the convertible, AM/FM radio and mag style wheel covers as the only options. The car was purchased around New Year 1969 in Dayton, Ohio. White with a black top, stripe, and interior. The original drivetrain is long gone, but Paul is already collecting the proper parts to correct the situation. Paul remembers that winter of 1969 as he and his young bride had just gotten their first apartment. The GTS passed thru many hands over the next 30 years ( but stayed in the general vicinity ) and was finally cut up into a race car. Mike did some detective work and found the hulk behind a body shop. The 383 was long gone, but it retained its original 4 speed and rear end. This GTS was used as a drag car and Paul bought as a shell with parts in milk crates (we all have been there!). It was built on 1-31-1969 and sports few options. LH remote mirror, tinted glass, AM radio, rocker and drip mouldings. The color combo is pretty rare. L1 Beige with a red bumble bee and red bucket seat interior! LS23M9B2823**: GTS#53: Recently purchased by John W. of MA. This is a B7 with B3 interior 440 "M" GTS. This GTS was turned into a back in the 70's with approx. 20-30,000 miles on the clock. It has been tubbed, caged, and a narrowed Dana60 installed on the ladder bar suspension. **NOTE** This GTS is now owned by Jim R. from IL! LS23M9B2823**: GTS#207: Mitch from Ohio is the third owner of this 440 "M" code GTS. Thought to be originally purchased from Miami Valley Dodge in Dayton, OH, this GTS changed hands the first time not long after it was originally sold-1970. The second owner drove the GTS ~HARD~ as it lived its life as a street racer until 1978 when it was parked until Mitch rescued it in 1989. The car had lost its original 440, as well as it was sporting a number of the era's modifications: headers, hood scoop, and traction bars! Mitch did a resto of it in the early 1990's and he will perform an all out resto in the near future. . F3 Light Green a wood grain wheel, AM radio, and N85 console tachometer. This "M" code's fender tag shows a "Build Date" of January 31, 1969. Now, we just need to convince Mitch to get rid of the Rallye Rims!!! LS23M9B282***: GTS#482: What a nice way to start off the 2011 season with a 440 "M" code entry! Jim D. from CA bought this 1969 440 GTS from the original owner in 1974. From 1974 to 1982 the GTS lived a life as a 10 second bracket racer. The B5 Bright Blue GTS had a tunnel ram intake, 727 trans and a 4.88 narrowed Dana 60 out back. It sat in Jim's garage until 1994 when Jim decided to detune the GTS and put it back on the street. Even in its detuneed state, the car was a handful on the street, so back in the garage it went. It shows 10,000 miles on the odometer. LS23M9B2927**: GTS#270: Ray from MN owns this red "M" code. Build Order #901111 sent this with and white bumble bee down the assembly line. Fender tag shows the E63 code for the 383, but we know they at the Hamtramck assembly plant!!. According to Ray, an old issue of MoparMuscle indicates this GTS came out with no engine and was shipped to Hurst for the 440 conversion. This we learned is not what happened!! Ray's "M" still has the in the trunk!! LS23M9B2950**: GTS#771: Paul P. from Michigan is the 3rd owner of this 60,000 original mile 440 GTS. The previous owner bought this GTS in 1982 with approx 45,000 miles on it. This was an original W1 White car with red interior and red bumble bee that was built on 2/14/1969. Owner #2 always wanted a black GTS so when it came time for a repaint in 1986, . The red interior The 440 is the match to this GTS as well, but the 727 transmission has been changed. Paul has all of the original paperwork as well including the window sticker showing this GTS cost $4048.05!!! Options on this "M" Code include bumperettes, tinted windshield, RH mirror, AM radio, 3 speed wipers, underhood pad, mag style wheel covers, and a console tachometer. > LS23M9B295***: GTS#577: Another 440 "M" code joins the GTS Registry. Scott S. in Ohio has owned this 1969 440 GTS since 1982 and had restored it to factory fresh condition with the GTS only showing 16,000 on the odometer. Scott found the GTS which had been parked since 1971 as another worn out 440 race car with a rust free body and 7800 miles on the clock. Originally built on Feb 14, 1969, the GTS was painted B5 with a B5 interior and black bumble bee and black vinyl top. LS23M9B295***: GTS#611: Mickey T. from Illinois picked up this 440 GTS in 2015. It was restored by Julius in California; which is a top notch Mopar restoration house. THe 440/727 has 3.55 gears behind it. . This is a radio delete car. LS23M9B295***: GTS#57: ##OWNERSHIP UPDATE 3 February 2019## Iggy A. from Florida has purchased GTS #57 as of February 2019##OWNERSHIP UPDATE 2##: Another owner for this "M" code. The only deviation from stock are the TTi ceramic coated headers and exhaust. Fear not, Kevin now has the original exhaust manifolds for his . LS23M9B295***: GTS#186: Ron C. from AZ has known this car since 1978, and has been actively pursuing it for 6 years. Ron was finally successful in obtaining this "M" code GTS. Ron has owned two previous "M" code cars when he lived in Ohio. This "M" was bought at Northland Dodge ( check listing above-Northland sold two "M" codes! ) and built in February of 1969. The car was restored once in 1991, but needs a good freshening up. This is a white with . Also, this is a number matching car! ##UPDATE## Ron has now finished the 3 1/2 year second restoration on his white "M" code. , and the . Congrats go out to Ron for saving another GTS. LS23M9B295***: GTS#382: Another "M" code 440 GTS finds the GTS Registry. George from Kentuckey owns this T5 Bronze example of the 440GTS. This GTS has a white interior and white bumble bee stripe. George had also owned another "M" code at the same time. He is in the process of restoring this 80,000 original mile car. The number matching 440 and 727 had been parted out before George bought the GTS. He has since located a 440'Cuda engine and trans to replace the missing OE pieces. George does have the proper radiator and exhaust manifolds specific to the 1969 "M" code. George has even located a set of "recall rims" and his 440 GTS will be riding on those soon. LS23M9B3005** GTS#599: Another 440 M code joins the GTS Registry! 100% restored with its number matching drivetrain. Bruce E. from Pennsylvania bought the GTS from the Stentella Collection. Built on Feb. 14, 1969 it is painted . It now has a 3.45 Dana 60 behind the . LS23M9B3006**: GTS#527: Bob H. in Ohio owns this 1969 "M" code 440 GTS. This GTS has spent its life on the drag strip since 1971. Bill bought the car in 1996 for only $900!! LS23M9B341***: GTS# 746: Brian G. just picked up this fully restored 1969 "M" code 440 GTS! I am waiting for more details from Brian but couldn't wait so I am running this off photos that he sent!! . This is also a and also has the full mag style wheel covers. LS23M9B3427**: VON 902108 LS23M9B3427**: GTS#50: Quite a history with this one. Owned by Randall from NC, this is a stripe delete V2 Hemi Orange "M" code GTS that was originally purchased at Northland Dodge in Colombus, OH. The second owner purchased the GTS with only 7500 original miles, and it now carries only 11,775 miles and hasn't seen the light of day since 1982. This was a drag strip only car. Participating in the 1970 NHRA Nationals in Indy, and a class winner at Dragway 42. Now sporting a narrowed rear end, 6 point cage and . It has the , which Randall will replace with repop pieces. Randall intends on keeping the GTS as a "pro street Day 2" type project. Plans for a "built" 496 stroker hidden under the stock appearing paint, valve covers, and air cleaner. Randall also intends on reproducing the around the wheelwells to keep that 1970's flavor! LS23M9B344***: GTS#520: Richard S. loves his 1969 GTSs!! This is his third entry (so far) and joins his 2500 mile and 22,000 mile cars GTS#513 and GTS#519. This one is special too as Richard seems to stay away from the "ordinary" GTS! . Built in batch #902030 on Saturday, March 29, 1969. Painted B5 Bright Blue with a B3 Light Blue bucket seat interior and white bumble bee stripe. is backed by the only trans availabe with the 440: the 727 Torqueflite. Low optioned as the only two options are the wheel well and drip rail mouldings. Have to cut down on that racing weight anyway we can! LS23M9B344***: GTS#638: Darrell C. from Florida just picked up his 2nd 440 M-Code GTS! He bought GTS #278 (listed in the Owner Change Section below) and he now has this 440 M-code. GTS#638 was sold new at Northland Dodge in Columbus, OH and then parked in 1976. It sat in hibernation until Darrell bought it in July, 2015. It has the original 440 but a non -matching 727. The GTS is painted R4 Bright Red with a black interior and white bumble bee. This was a radio delete car. LS23M9B3468**: GTS#288: Built on March 29, 1969, this "M" code 440 GTS had lived a hard, hard life, but is now in the good hands of John H. from Massachusetts!! John bought this ragged out 440 GTS back in 1984, and completed the restoration in 1996. Among the most notable original features still with the car are the numbers matching 440 and 727, along with the original red line E70-14 in the trunk!!! The 440 has been built to withstand today's lower octane no lead fuel with 9:1 compression and hardened seats. . Only options are the AM Music master radio and N85 Console Tachometer. LS23M9B350***: GTS#376: The first entry for December 2007, and it is a 440 "M" code GTS!! This F3 Light Green 440 GTS is owned by Don A. It was built on March 29, 1969. Don is the third owner of this original Grand-Spaulding Dodge bought GTS. It is undergoing a rotissiere restoration to return to its factory fresh roots. F3 paint, with F3 light green interior and green vinyl top contrasted with the white bumble bee stripe. Don has the number match 440 under the hood, but is looking for a 727 to mount behind the RB engine. Don has been a long time fan of the Scat pack Dodges, and always dreamed of owning a bumble bee striped car. He certainly hits a home run with his first one!! LS23M9B351***: GTS#548: ##OWNERSHIP CHANGE##--James T. from Texas now owns GTS #548 as of July, 2014! He will continue the restoration started by Jim G. Here is the original listing:It has been a while since a "M" code 440 GTS has surfaced here on the GTS Registry, but Jim G. is the lucky owner of this 87K original mile 440 GTS. Painted Y2 Yellow with a black interior, Jim has owned his GTS for about 18 months. He purchased the M code from a Chrysler dealer in Ohio that had the GTS for 15 years. LS23M9B3578**: GTS#196: Another former race car hopefully returns to the street thanks to Winton W. from MI. This "M" code is . Reportedly, this "M" was stolen from the HotRod Magazine parking lot before they could test the car. The car was recovered, and spent the remaining years on the drag strip! LS23M9B3578**: GTS#328: Andrew B. from Indiana now owns this 1969 440 "M" code GTS. His dad's buddy owned the car in the late 1970's. Originally used as a street racer, the car was mini tubbed around 1979 and then tunred into a bracket bomber. Running in the high tens until about 1990-1992, the car was sold to a local farmer. The new owner parked the "M" code outside his barn for the next 15 years before Andrew rescued the forgotten GTS. Bough in March, 2004, Andrew had the 440 back on the track by August, 2004. The best time for Andrew will have a new paint job in the "works" soon!! LS23M9B357***: GTS #703: Purchased 40 years ago as a "birthday present" for his wife Liz, Glen F. from PA has resurrected this "M" code to its former glory. Built on Sunday 4/27/1969 this 440 GTS This is a numbers matching GTS that Glenn repainted in 1981 while also cleaning up the previous owners' handiwork. Glenn and Liz drive their GTS everywhere and have even taken it down the 1/4 mile turning a 13.70 thru the iron manifolds and full exhaust. This GTS has also been featured in Car Craft, Hot Rod, Muscle Car Review, and Muscle Car Greats! LS23M9B357***: GTS#709: Paul from Michigan owns this 1969 440 M code GTS. He bought the GTS out of a junkyard in 1975. It had no engine or trans but he knew it was a big block car by looking at the K member. Purchased for $100 !!!! Paul tracked down the original owner and found it had been bought new at Monroe Dodge in Monroe , Michigan with the owner being shipped off to fight in Vietnam only to return to find his M code being torn apart and sold off by his brother! When Paul bought it a lot of stuff was missing and/or cut out of the GTS. But he brought it back to life as best as he could for the times and his budget. Period correct mods like fenderwell headers, a Six Pak intake, and a 4 speed trans. Paul has accumulated many OE and M code correct parts over time and is returning his 440 GTS back to factory original. This GTS was built on Sunday April 27, 1969. Painted X9 Black with a black buckets seat console interior and it was V88 Stripe Delete. GTS #703 was an M code built directly before Paul's GTS #709. LS23M9B3578**: GTS#278: Currently, this "M" code GTS is owned by Brian J. The real story behind this GTS comes from its original Al C. from Illinois. Al picked up the by trading in his 1965 GTO. Not satisfied with the 440's performance(?!?) Al swapped in a Hemi from a wrecked 1968 Charger. Amongst the usual modifications, Al installed a Vertex magneto, big tube Hooker Headers, a Keith Black induction system involving a quartet of . The Hemi "M" spent the next 10 years shuttling Al back and forth to work (!!!) and then spending the nights ripping the asphalt apart in street racing duels! In 1979, the "Wild Thang" was sold off in sections. Brian J. now owns the rolling chassis sans engine/trans/interior. The story takes a "Wild Thang" twist. Al C. (Remember him? The original owner) found his original red "M". The owner at that time had both the red "M" and a white Hemi Dart. The owner had passed away. Brian J. picked up the old red "M" from the estate, and Al bought the white 340 Swinger that had been Pro-Streeted and had a Hemi in the engine bay. His old "M" needed too much money, time, and work for Al to consider buying it back. How are these two connected, you ask??? . That system was on display in an area speed shop after Al parted out his red GTS. The Weber topped manifold was stolen from the speed shop, recovered some month's later, sold to someone in Chicago, then found its way to California. Al located the system years later and bought it back because he missed looking out over the 8 shiny induction stacks!! A nice article was written in the October 2008 issue of Mopar Collector's Guide about the "Wild Thang"! LS23M9B3578**: GTS#156: A "M" code R4 BrightRed GTS built on 4-27-69. This one is owned by Wayne K. from MN. Having a black interior and a 3.55 SG, this Dodge was ordered thru White Bear Dodge. Formerly raced under the "Undertaker" name, and saved from the "crusher", this GTS has been given a full rotisserie restoration. Recently featured in the June2004 issue of Musclecar Enthusiast, Wayne can now produly proclaim he has a Congrats to Wayne! LS23M9B357***: GTS#613: ##ONWERSHIP CHANGE## GTS#613 is now owned by Eric H. This M code 440 GTS has come full circle (sort of). Eric is good friends with the original owner Don, and only lives a few miles from Don. The GTS has traveled from Minnesota to Colorado to California and now back to Minnesota. Here is the original listing: This 440 M code GTS was purchased during a Dick Landy Drag Racing Clinic held at White Bear Dodge in St. Paul, MN. The date was 5/20/1969! Ray P. is the third owner of the 440 GTS. (wonder how many 1/4 mile passes this includes?!?). The GTS is B5 Bright Blue and is stripe delete that was built on 4/27/1969. LS23M9B357***: GTS#225: ##OWNERSHIP UPDATE##:OWNERSHIP UPDATE #2-10/25/2012: Vince M. is the current owner for GTS#225. There was at least one more owner between Dave H. from MN owning this GTS and Vince as Vince bought the M code out of MA. Here is the previous update and original listing: OWNERSHIP UPDATE #1-Dave H. from MN (also owns GTS#324) now owns this "M" code. and doing a full resto on the GTS over the next few years. Here is the original listing: George S. from IL. owns this "M" code that has been heavily modified during its lifetime. George found this "M" at a State Police auction. He had to dig deep to fine the original green under shaved door handles and emblems of the RED painted GTS. The rusty, holed floored panels were replaced, a set of Weld wheels and M/T slicks replaced the rotted old rubber and rusty Cragers. The fender tag and broadcast sheet are loooong gone, but the VIN matches in all three locations. Still sporting a 440 and a 727, George's "M" runs low 12's at 110mph! LS23M9B3578**: VON 902119 LS23M9B3578**: GTS#21: T5 Copper automatic "M" code 440 now owned by David H.. This "M" code is in need of a complete restoration. Recently on an internet auction site there was a red 1969 GTS listed for auction. The seller claimed that the car is a rare "1 of 30" 4 speed 440 GTS. Now, as we all know, ALL 440 GTS cars in 1969 came with console shifted Torqueflite 727 transmissions. Also, they came with the letter "M" as the fifth digit in the VIN. Look closely at the VIN tag pictured above. Notice anything "funny"???? Like the letter "L" in the fifth digit spot??? That's nice. "L" was used in the B-body production VIN sequence. As we ALL know, "P", "H", and "M" were the ONLY three engine codes used on the 1967-1969 GTS cars!!! The seller also conveniently has lost the fender tag and broadcast sheet. He has a title with the "L" in the VIN. However, this is suspect because if this vehicle were registered and titled in the state of Alabama, all you would need is a "bill of sale" from a former owner, and the VIN off the dashboard. Convenient that the VIN plate has been obviously altered, so now there is a improper title that comes with the car. Now notice the VIN on the transmission case. Notice the "H"?? This is a former 383 GTS 4 speed car that has a 440 between the fenders and the owner has illegally tampered with the dashboard VIN plate. If there really WAS an "L" in the VIN (which there NEVER WAS ON A GTS!!) then that "L" would also be reflected in the transmission and engine VIN stampings for 1969. This transmission has an "H" with the matching 6 digit serial number. This vehicle has been circulating since the 1990's. IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!Tom R. has recently purchased this modified 383 GTS from the listing dealer for a fair market price as a modified 383 GTS. Tom R. has notified me on 3-11-2007 that he has finally achieved his goal and has the had the VIN changed back to the proper "H" code in the fifth digit!! The Musclecar hobby owes Tom a debt of gratitude for keeping the seller honest in his pricing, and for following thru with Tom's promise of getting the VIN to LEGALLY show the "H" code. This has NOT been an easy journey for Tom and I hope he doesn't lose his enthusiasm for the hobby in general, and for the GTS in particular!! THANKS Tom!!! **NEW** Warning to potential GTS owners: We will post any possible fraudulent VIN here, any bad GTS clones, or poor attempts to rebody a GTS in order to turn a profit. Please send any info you may have about any GTS imposter to the GTS Registry! WARNING: As shown above. LS23L9B241824. This is an apparent attempt to falsify a VIN badge turning a 1969 383 4speed GTS into a 440 GTS. WARNING: Beware of a H code GTS bearing the following VIN: LS23H9B129123. This is a 383 GTS re-tagged as a 440 car. The VIN now reflects the proper "H" code in the fifth digit of the VIN!! WARNING: . Re-tagged Dart turned into a 383 GTS. VIN: LS23H9B145***. WARNING: LS23P8B105930. White 1968 340/727 GTS dismantled by owner. WARNING: LS23P9B218797. This GTS was parted out to supply GTS parts in the creation of a 383 H code GTS clone based on a 1969 Dart 270 Custom body. The clone "GTS" has a VIN of LH23F9B241553. The clone car was advertised as such. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
