What is AFIB 2gether™?
Shared Decision-Making: AFib 2gether™ is a research study that focuses on a mobile application developed by Pfizer, Inc with consultation from Dr McManus' called AFib 2gether™. Through this app, patients can determine their risk of stroke due to atrial fibrillation and prioritize questions and concerns for discussion with their cardiology provider.
How is atrial fibrillation diagnosed?
Opportunistic screening for AF is recommended in patients ≥65 years old, hypertensive patients, and in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Systematic ECG screening should be considered to detect AF in patients aged ≥75 years, or those at high risk of stroke.
What is the status of the AFIB 2gether shared decision making study?
We will also audio-record a subset of encounters to assess for evidence of shared decision making. Results: Enrollment in the AFib 2gether shared decision-making study is still ongoing for both patients and providers. The first participant enrolled on November 22, 2019. Analysis and publishing of results are expected to be completed in spring 2021.
When is home monitoring indicated for patients with atrial fibrillation ?
Because normal electrocardiographic findings do not rule out atrial fibrillation, home monitoring is recommended if there is clinical suspicion of arrhythmia despite normal test results.
