Take a surface in sculpt room like the demo cube or head, delete surface facing camera, you see background afterwards, brush can still select in this area that isn't rendering mesh (due to backface culling), faces can still be deleted/selected.

The object is nearer to the center of projection, number of polygons from the back will be removed. It applies to individual objects. It does not consider the interaction between various objects. Many polygons are obscured by front faces, although they are closer to the viewer, so for removing such faces back face removal algorithm is used.
To enable or disable Backface Culling when Viewport Shading is set to Solid mode using the Eevee renderer, click the Viewport Shading options drop-down, upper far-right of the 3D View and then the Backface Culling checkbox in Options to enable. All objects in the 3D View immediately display with their backfaces no longer rendered.
You find the Backface Culling option in the Properties Panel N shading section while in Object Mode. The effect with a default cube and one partially removed face. When renderer is set to Game Engine the Backface Culling option is also available in the material's settings. Show activity on this post.
Unless you are seriously limited by mesh data size, the easiest and best-performing way to render backfaces is to double your mesh and flip the normals on the duplicate. VivaanMalik, mandisaw and artician like this.

In Rendered mode using the Eevee engine, Backface Culling is similarly a material property. To enable/disable select an object with assigned material and in Material properties scroll down to Settings and click the Backface Culling checkbox to enable. By default, Maya turns backface culling off. All wireframes are shown. Surfaces appear invisible in areas where the normal points away from the camera. Select one of the following culling options. Displays wireframe outlines. Sets backface culling for soft edges only.
Backface Culling can be replicated using Materials when using the Cycles render engine. Using a standard Material as a base, a Geometry and Transparent BSDF node are mixed with the base nodes to create a backface culling Material that reproduces the effect otherwise provided by a toggleable option.
