  • 1RockinChick85 First MessageNov 2, 2007, 3:00pm First MessageNov 2, 2007, 3:00pm I need an awsome christian username. Any ideas?
  • 2lilithcatNov 2, 2007, 3:00pm Nov 2, 2007, 3:00pm Jesus Christ?
  • 3twomoredaysNov 2, 2007, 3:11pm Nov 2, 2007, 3:11pm lol, lilithcat. That caused me to just burst out laughing. Glad I'm alone in my apartment.More seriously, how about velvetelvis? Sure, it might be an obscure Christian username known only to those who have read the book by the same name, but doesn't that just add to the awesomeness? Plus, Biblical names are just so first century.
  • 4myshelvesNov 2, 2007, 3:24pm Nov 2, 2007, 3:24pm twomoredays,I had to read that carefully . . . I first thought it was something about Velvetta. :-)Which reminded me of another contemporary possibility. Is GrilledCheeseSandwich taken yet? That was pretty awesome.
  • 5RockinChick85Nov 2, 2007, 5:55pm Nov 2, 2007, 5:55pm Wow. Okay any better ideas? ANYTHING! I was thinking something like Mountians with a Mustard Seed What do you think?
  • 6RockinChick85Nov 2, 2007, 6:00pm Nov 2, 2007, 6:00pm What does velvetelvis mean? It sounds cool but I don't want to use it later find out it means something like "One with hair armpits."
  • 7RockinChick85Nov 2, 2007, 6:14pm Nov 2, 2007, 6:14pm Oh come on it wasn't that dumb of a question! Now somebody help me out here.
  • 8margdEdited: Nov 2, 2007, 6:16pm Edited: Nov 2, 2007, 6:16pm I was going to suggest OtherCheek, Beatitude #_ (the mock-you-for-my-sake one), or GoldenRule,But it sounds like you’re on to them! :o}
  • 9twomoredaysNov 2, 2007, 8:33pm Nov 2, 2007, 8:33pm #6 lol, no it doesn't mean that. is a book by Rob Bell talking about the direction he thinks modern Christianity should move. It's an interesting read though I have to admit that the way it was formatted (pick up a copy and flip through it and you'll see what I mean) nearly drove me nuts.
  • 10myshelvesNov 2, 2007, 9:04pm Nov 2, 2007, 9:04pm Mountains with a Mustard Seed is a mouth (keyboard) full. People would be calling you Mountains. Maybe just MustardSeed?
  • 11EncompassedRunnerEdited: Nov 2, 2007, 9:07pm Edited: Nov 2, 2007, 9:07pm Well, if you're a Young Earther Creationist Christian, instead of RockinChick you could be ChickenCameFirst, then when questioned about your name, you could explain the Genesis creation account of how humans, animals, and plants didn't evolve but were created developed, an appearance of age though only 1 nanosecond old, with the seed in them--thus the chicken before the egg.
  • 12myshelvesNov 2, 2007, 9:28pm Nov 2, 2007, 9:28pm Or maybe Copyright4004BC. With a portrait picture of James Ussher.
  • 13EncompassedRunnerNov 2, 2007, 9:47pm Nov 2, 2007, 9:47pm Cute one, myshelves is quick that way. Ignoring the strawman, you could use "Foreknown" with a Moebius Strip infinity symbol. (reference Rom 8:29). How 'bout TemporaryAlien or LegalAlien (reference Heb 11:13-16).
  • 14NoisyNov 2, 2007, 9:49pm Nov 2, 2007, 9:49pm How about GoneTodayHereTomorrow.
  • 15NoisyNov 2, 2007, 9:50pm Nov 2, 2007, 9:50pm Or should that be Eightyearsandstillwaiting?
  • 16Mr.DurickNov 2, 2007, 11:07pm Nov 2, 2007, 11:07pm I like Mary.
  • 17myshelvesEdited: Nov 2, 2007, 11:20pm Edited: Nov 2, 2007, 11:20pm # 13, Encompassed,Strawman? Hardly. I may be somewhat prejudiced, as he is on my family tree, but I think that Archbishop Ussher has gotten a bit of a bad rap. His biblical chronology was the result of considerable scholarly work, in history and languages as well as in biblical studies. But it was certainly not his only publication or achievement. His history of the early Celtic church in Britain and Ireland would be enough to ensure that he is remembered. In the LT spirit, he travelled extensively, purchasing manuscripts where he could, copying them where he couldn't, and he left a valuable and extensive library to Trinity College Dublin. He was sufficiently respected even by political and religious opponents that he was given a state funeral in Westminster Abbey in 1656, in spite of his having supported Charles I against Parliament.
  • 18EncompassedRunnerEdited: Nov 3, 2007, 3:28pm Edited: Nov 3, 2007, 3:28pm Ussher's probably the #1 strawman figure used by folks who mock us Creationists in the sense that rather than picking a representative Young Earth Creationist, scoffers pick this dead guy who actually set a date, something almost no Young Earth Creationist does. (Even we make fun of ourselves by citing Ussher!)
  • 19myshelvesNov 3, 2007, 5:48pm Nov 3, 2007, 5:48pm Encompassed,The date calculated by Ussher may fit the definition of a "straw man argument," as being easy to refute. But other creationist assertions are equally giggle-worthy, and the faithful continue to assert them, so I'm not so sure about that. I haven't looked into what flaws in his dating have been found which would cause him to be laughed at by those who would accept his major premises regarding creation and the historical accuracy of the bible. Has someone figured out that it was really 4003 or 4005 BC? James Ussher himself was, as I said, no "straw man" (= has nothing but, symbolically, worthless straw inside.) Quite the contrary.
  • 20henklNov 4, 2007, 7:12am Nov 4, 2007, 7:12am English not being my first language, I wonder if "scoffer" means anybody who doesn't agree with creationists.
  • 21jimrobertsNov 4, 2007, 7:40am Nov 4, 2007, 7:40am is already taken.How about FisherOfMen - though if you're really a chick, it might be misunderstood?
  • 22myshelvesNov 4, 2007, 10:52am Nov 4, 2007, 10:52am How about a wiki for cool user name suggestions? Under Cool Christian names we'd have categories for all of the Christian churches (perhaps with the Catholics & Mormons and some other "suspect" ones given an asterisk), plus categories for topics such as ID, liberation theology, YEC, OEC, the sanctuary movement, faith healing, etc. There would, of course, be other pages for cool Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Shinto, Wiccan, agnostic, atheist, deist, pantheist, etc. user names. Those desiring to advertise political or economic faiths would have a page to suggest cool names urging votes for particular candidates, or honoring Marx or Smith. (VoteforHil, InvisibleHander, BombsNotBallots.) Another page could offer suggestions for user names related to books, to libraries, or to specific genres of literature. Once everyone is wearing the appropriate sandwich board, all could be invited to the Hands Across the Sea group to discuss their differences and seek Peace.

  • 24MorphidaeNov 4, 2007, 11:40am Nov 4, 2007, 11:40am What are you saying? That only political, religious, economic or literary usernames are allowed? If that is the case, I'll have to leave LT as I won't be a part of a forum that is intolerant of vegetable, mineral or animal usernames. What about cheese?Harumph!
  • 25myshelvesNov 4, 2007, 12:07pm Nov 4, 2007, 12:07pm Morph,That list only scratched the surface. A major category also left out would relate to sexual preferences and practices. If someone recommends reading , one does want to know whether that person is into bondage.
