An HRA only covers qualified medical and dental expenses. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), medical expenses are costs incurred to alleviate or prevent a physical or mental ailment, not expenses to maintain general health, such as vitamins.
A Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) is an employer-funded account that helps employees pay for qualified medical expenses not covered by their health plans. HRAs are compatible with all types of health insurance plans and they are owned by the employer.
Your cards are credited with the HRA contributions paid to the Fund office on your behalf. They can be used, instead of cash, to pay for qualified health care expenses such as:
Some employers may only allow the HRA to pay for services covered by your health plan. Some employers may also let you use funds in the account to pay for dental, vision or other services. Some of the more common expenses that HRAs can help pay for include:
