Testing For Your Maine CDL: In order to get your CDL, you first have to obtain your Commercial Learner's Permit. To get your CLP, you must: Pass all written exams for the classification of CDL you want. Take and pass written tests for any endorsements, if applicable. Pass a vision test. Bring 2 documents of identification.
After 14 days, you will be able to take your CDL exam. When you go to the exam, you must bring: A valid CDL holder with you to the testing site. A completed and signed appointment notice. Your Maine commercial learner's permit (CLP). The CDL of the driver accompanying you. Must be for the same class of commercial vehicle the test is being taken in.
You must not have more than one driver’s license, and your driving privileges must not be suspended, revoked, canceled or disqualified in Maine or any other state. You must meet the medical requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
A driver with an Maine Class B CDL (plus appropriate endorsements) can also legally operate all vehicles in Class C.
The written CDL exam is not very difficult for most to pass. In fact, very few people fail it. The driving portion of the test is a bit trickier, but the written part shouldn't be too much trouble if you spend a reasonable amount of time studying the CDL manual and you take our free online practice CDL Tests to help you out!
