In accordance with revised program standards, the Education Department is no longer able to accept applications for the Clear Credential program. Eligible candidates may clear single subject, multiple subject, or education specialist preliminary credentials through the UC San Diego Induction program that begins Fall 2017.
Clear or Level II credentials are not held for professional growth requirements. Effective January 1, 2007, all clear and level II credentials must be renewed online. Life credentials were issued until September 1, 1985.
SB 2042 Clear Credential Program. Credentials are offered on a preliminary basis. Each new teacher must complete the requirements based upon the preliminary to clear a teaching credential within a specified five year time period in order to remain a K-12 teacher within the California Public Education System.
Requirements for Clearing your Preliminary Credential are listed on your credential document under Renewal Requirements. To see your requirements, log-on to the CTC Educator Page (Link) and click on your document number. Your renewal requirements are listed at the bottom of your document along with a Renewal Code.
1) Complete an approved Teacher Induction Program and apply through the program's sponsor. 2) Submit proof of National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification and an application. Once you have a Clear Credential, it lasts for five years before you need to renew it.
To renew your Clear Credential, simply login to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) website, choose the document you wish to renew and pay the application fee. The Commission on Teacher Credentialing ensures excellence in education by establishing high standards for the preparation and licensing of public school educators. The Committee of Credentials is a disciplinary review committee created by statute and appointed by the Commission.
